5:50 Leberkäse: there is no beef in it. It consists of 60% lean pork meat and 40% pork belly. Bacon? WTF... You can eat it with mustard, ketchup or a combo of both. Usually, you pay by weight, so you can ask for a thin, bigger or big slice of meat :).

Potatoes look healthy and flavorful. My potatoes are white and bland and I worry about lack of vitamins from them.

So, the dough recipe was the same for each method? I would think the metal gadgets would need a thinner batter based on the size of the holes, and the board method would need a more pasty dough.

My family has a strong German heritage, but these German dishes did not make it to our table. I feel cheated! Everything looks delicious, hut the German dish I long for most is Schweineschaxe. That looks unbelievably good to me.

… Years years ago, I had here in Germany the pleasure of having dinner with US business partners several times. After dinner, the table looked like a battlefield. Bread was crumbled next to the plate and eating with both, a knife and fork together was impossible for these people. 🙂

In Chicago it’s against our religion to put ketchup on our hot dogs. And it’s very very rare to see hotdogs split but i do like it that way. In Chicago at least the hot dogs are always 100% beef. But a lot of America eats a pork/beef mixture which i hate. Anything pork is usually bratwurst or polish sausage (kielbasa). In Chicago the polish is my favorite (smothered in carmelized onions, mustard and a hot pepper ) Philly steak is everywhere in America…that one didn’t look like an authentic one but Philadelphia is the only pace making it great. BBQ is something need to be made with love (in the south its more common and good) because its very time and labor intensive. 6-18 hrs of cooking. That bbq place had terrible looking meat. Breadcrumbs on Mac and cheese is a fancy bbq place topping. Varies by region, and culture. ALLL in all i bet the American food was better or no worse the “authentic German” in America.

I like sauerkraut in Reuben sandwiches to which I also add horseradish for a little more kick. I eat Polish sauerkraut and sausages but it's not an every day dish for me I like to add diced apple to kraut. It sweetens it and adds some crunch.

My mom cooked pork roast with sauerkraut and served with mashed potatoes and corn on the side. We would always mix our potatoes, sauerkraut and corn together on our plates. Eventually she started mixing the three together in the serving bowl because she realized we were going to do it on our plates if she didn’t. lol

United States: If we put our napkin on the chair is considered as an insult to the chef. We eat with one hand under the table... or if both hands are there, then like you, we don't put elbows on table. We do not have our hands on the table while waiting for the food. Eating with a fork and knife ; we cut up a food piece, then put knife at top of the edge of plate. To eat with both utensils in hand, is more of co.siderwd as hoarding. Yes, always chew with your mouth closed ! Toasting drinks, it's bad luck to toast woth water in glass. 😊 Now, mind you, most people do not follow these guidelines. Most are simply sloppy ... and I jave to admit, once in awhile I get sloppy as well, because the surroundings can affect you.

My favorite in Unterfranken was Zwetschgenkuchen, plum cake. It was not too sweet. Most of the cakes are not too sweet. That is why one can enjoy more than one piece. My second favorite is Stollen. Also, not too sweet. When my German friends came to visit in the U.S., someone gave them brownies. Later, I overheard them saying, "Zu suess." Too sweet! Also, in Germany, I really appreciated and developed a taste for real whipped cream.
